This plot sounds like a lot of other Nazi war movies, but the forgotten footnote in history this movie is based on happens to be true. It’s surprising these events are not more well documented, but probably only World War II buffs will remember the assassination of “The Butcher of Prague.”

As our climate stubbornly refuses to recognize fall, one of the signals that fall has arrived (because we couldn’t tell from the temperature) is the different tone movies take. They go from popcorn blockbusters to more action thrillers and dramas beginning in September, leading up to the awards season. This is when the studios premiere their best hopes for nominations, but the best of those usually dribble out between Thanksgiving and the end of the year. Beginning in about two weeks, though, superheroes will take a hiatus until next summer. So long, Superman.

Fans of “Sons of Anarchy” will remember Deputy Chief David Hale, played by Texas actor Taylor Sheridan. Since the poor law man was killed off in season 3, Sheridan has concentrated his efforts on writing. First “Sicario,” the drug cartel thriller, which wowed critics earlier this year, and now this, which had its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this year and came away with rave reviews.
