While another mediocre week at the cinema played out, the Toronto Independent Film Festival premiered the upcoming films that will debut in theaters this fall. Perhaps one of the most important film festivals in terms of which movies will get noticed, Toronto is where the big players come together to put together new movies deals and decide which undistributed ones will get a slot in theaters in order to compete for awards at the end of the year.

So how did I spend my summer vacation? I traveled to Switzerland, Poland and went on a fabulous skiing trip to the Alps — and I never left my couch. I was catching up on some foreign films and here are three worth a look.

As the summer movie season comes to an end and the fall movies pick up, this is always a good time to catch up on movies that were overlooked in theatrical release or never made it to local theaters and are now available on DVD and streaming platforms.
