Bow season on deer is in full swing across Texas and will continue through Nov. 6. The regular gun season in most Texas counties will run from Nov. 7 – Jan. 3. The South Texas season runs from Nov. 7 – Jan. 17.

The bow season on deer opens Saturday, Oct. 3, and based on what I’ve seen in local sporting goods stores, hunters are gearing up with new bows, arrows, feeders, game cameras and plenty of camo for what is being touted as one of the best seasons we’ve had in years.

Last Saturday’s teal season opener was about the best many hunters had seen in years. Based on field reports that I’ve heard, lots of teal began showing up about a week prior to the opener on flooded crawfish ponds and rice fields west of Beaumont and on over toward Winnie.

September is the month of opportunity for anglers and hunters here in Southeast Texas. It’s got a little bit of everything to offer. On the hunting menu, we’ve got doves, teal, gators and as of Oct. 3, bow hunting for deer comes. On the fishing menu, we’ve got bass, crappie and catfish on Sam Rayburn and Toledo Bend. Along the coast, trout, reds and flounder are never easier to catch than what you’ll find during September and into October.
