Kinky Boots has won every major Best Musical Award offered, and now the smash-hit comes to the Lutcher Theatre for one night only on Tuesday, Jan. 2, at 7:30 p.m.

With songs by pop icon Cyndi Lauper, this joyous musical celebration is about the friendships we discover, and the belief that you can change the world when you change your mind.

Inspired by true events, Kinky Boots takes you from a gentlemen’s shoe factory in Northampton to glamorous catwalks of Milan. Charlie Price is struggling to live up to his father’s expectations and continue the family business. With the factory’s future hanging in the balance, help arrives in the unlikely but spectacular form of Lola, a fabulous performer in need of some sturdy new stilettos

Charlie, played by Lance Bordelon, abandons his family’s shoe factory to live with a demanding girlfriend. After the untimely death of his father, Charlie returns to the struggling factory and finds it’s up to him to figure out a way to keep the business alive.

Enter Lola, played by Jos Banks, who gives Charlie the idea to create ladies’ shoes for men. Soon, the factory is turning out “kinky boots” under the supervision of Charlie and Lola, but can this harebrained scheme actually work?

Produced by Troika Entertainment, the music and lyrics were written by Lauper, who of course gave us the iconic ’80s tunes “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” “Time After Time” and “She Bop.” The music of Kinky Boots was so powerful it won a Tony Award for Best Score.

Four-time Tony winner Harvey Fierstein wrote the book Kinky Boots, which then was turned into a film in 2005 and made its Broadway debut at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in midtown Manhattan on April 4, 2013. The direction and choreography is by two-time Tony winner Jerry Mitchell of Legally Blonde and Hairspray.

The success and popularity led the musical to win a total of six Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Performance by a Leading Actor, Best Original Music Score, Best Sound Design, Best Orchestra and Best Choreography.

Kinky Boots also earned the prestigious Olivier Award in London for Best New Musical presented by The Society of London Theatre and has a production in Australia that opened last year and soon to be Germany, Manila and Poland.

Tickets range from $45 to $70 and are available now at lutcher.org or by calling the box office at (409) 886-5535.
