Shorkey Center Christmas cards only $10

For over 70 years and under various names, the Shorkey Center has offered educational and therapeutic services for children with special needs.

This year marks their 25th annual holiday card campaign, which executive director Araina Daniels said is one of the organization’s largest fundraisers.

“Profits from our … sales are used to offset the cost of high quality therapy services [given] to deserving students who otherwise may not be able to afford it,” Daniels said.

The Shorkey Center is a nonprofit that offers therapy at lower rates than private industry, she explained.

In addition to the cards, which are $10 for a pack including 10 cards and envelopes, the Shorkey Center added a 2018 calendar this year for $15, fundraiser organizer Shanda Guidry said.

“The artwork is done by students and clients here at the Shorkey Center,” Daniels added.

Orders can be placed by contacting Guidry by calling (409) 838-6568, e-mailing sguidry [at] shorkey [dot] org or through its Facebook page at

Displays selling the cards will be available at the Shorkey Center office on Eighth Street and at Bettie Jean’s restaurant during the holiday season.
