Automotive Review: Seating for up to seven in the Acura MDX

2018 Acura MDX

The sophisticated Acura MDX sport utility vehicle blends luxury, style and seating for up to seven passengers into an attractive package. From the outside, the MDX’s design features crisp, sculpted lines, dual exhaust and available pewter gray machine-finished 10-spoke wheels. Several exterior colors are available for the Acura MDX, including hues such as White Diamond Pearl, Crystal Black Pearl and Dark Cherry Pearl.

Interior style

Inside, the Acura MDX offers a comfortable and inviting cabin. Amenities include a tri-zone automatic climate control, keyless access system, premium audio system with 10 speakers, premium leather-trimmed upholstery or an available perforated Milano leather-trimmed interior with contrast stitching and piping, and available second-row captains chairs.

Additionally, available trims include a high-gloss wood-finished and metal trim, an optional Natural Black Limba Wood with metal trim or an optional Natural Olive Ash Burl Wood with metal trim. Interior color schemes include Ebony, Espresso, Parchment and Graystone.

Interior dimensions include rear legroom of 36.6 inches for the second row and 28.1 inches for the third row; rear shoulder room of 59.1 inches for the second row and 54.7 inches for the third row; and rear hip room of 57.8 inches for the second row and 40.6-inches for the third row. Cargo volume is 14.9 cubic feet behind the third row.

Under the hood

The Acura MDX features a 3.5-liter direct-injected i-VTEC 24-valve V6 engine rated at 290 horsepower and 267 foot-pounds torque. The MDX with front-wheel drive and Idle Stop (included with Advance package) has an EPA fuel economy rating of 20 mpg in the city, 27 mpg on the highway, and 23 mpg combined, while the MDX with all-wheel-drive and Idle Stop (included with Advance package) is EPA rated at 19 mpg in the city, 26 mpg on the highway, and 22 mpg combined.

New for 2018

The sophisticated 2018 MDX models arrived at Acura dealerships in September 2017 featuring new updates, including two new exterior colors and a starting MSRP of $44,200, just $150 more than the outgoing model.


The Acura lineup features six distinctive models: the RLX, TLX, ILX, the 5-passenger RDX luxury crossover SUV, the seven-passenger Acura MDX, and the NSX (the NSX has a MSRP of $156,000).
