With a fuel-efficient four-cylinder engine, six-speed automatic transmission, and two-row seating for five, the 2016 Toyota RAV4 offers a balance of fuel efficiency, cargo capacity and stylish design. Plus, the RAV4 is available in six trim levels: LE, XLE, XLE Hybrid, SE, Limited, and Limited Hybrid.

The manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) for the 2016 RAV4 gas models begins at $24,350. The MSRP for the 2016 RAV4 Hybrid is $28,370 for the XLE Hybrid and $33,610 for the Limited Hybrid.


The 2016 RAV4 features Toyota’s 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which produces 176 horsepower and 172 foot-pounds of torque. Fuel economy ratings are 24 mpg in the city, 31 mpg on the highway and 26 mpg combined for FWD models and 22 mpg in the city, 29 mpg on the highway and 25 mpg combined for AWD models.

Fuel economy averages for the RAV4 Hybrid models are 34 mpg in the city, 31 mpg on the highway and 33 mpg combined.

Exterior design

For 2016, the RAV4 offers an attractive front fascia and silhouette that features strong character lines and nine available exterior colors, including hues such as Black Currant Metallic, Barcelona Red Metallic and Magnetic Gray Metallic.

Other exterior highlights include color-keyed rear spoiler, color-keyed outside door handles (Limited trim adds chrome outside door handles), and much more.

Interior style

The RAV4’s cabin has a comfortable feel with its soft-touch accents and four different interior color schemes: Black, Ash (XLE and Limited trims), Cinnamon (SE and Limited trims), and Nutmeg (Limited and XLE trims).

Additionally, the second row dimensions include 37.2 inches of rear legroom, 55.4 inches of rear shoulder room and 48.9 inches of rear hip room. Cargo capacity is listed as 38.4 cubic feet behind the rear seats (35.6 cubic feet for Hybrid trims) or 73.4 cubic feet with the rear seats folded (70.6 cubic feet for Hybrid trims).

Interior amenities include air conditioning, fabric-trimmed seating and remote keyless entry. The XLE trim adds items such as dual-zone automatic climate control, while SE trim features include SofTex-trimmed seating, smart key system with push button start and much more.
