Lexus introduces NX 300h, its sixth hybrid

Lexus NX 300h

Lexus created the luxury utility crossover category with the original midsized RX model in 1998 and now, for 2015, is introducing the all-new NX.

The 2015 Lexus NX debuts in two versions, the NX 200t with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and our press vehicle for the week, the NX 300h hybrid, which brings the brand’s number of hybrid offerings to six, the most among luxury brands.

Fuel economy

The NX 300h shares the sporty persona of its turbocharged sibling while delivering higher fuel efficiency. The Lexus Hybrid Drive system can be matched to FWD or AWD models. Fuel economy averages 35 mpg in the city, 31 mpg on the highway and 33 mpg combined for FWD models, and 33 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on the highway and 32 mpg combined for AWD models. (The Lexus NX 300h coefficient of drag is 0.34.)

Interior Design

With a starting MSRP of $39,720, the NX 300h offers quiet, comfortable seating for five. Standard interior features include an eight-speaker audio system with integrated Sirius XM satellite radio receiver (90-day trial subscription included), dark umber interior trim pieces, NuLuxe upholstery (available in crème, flaxen or black), contrast stitching in light gray, automatic dual-zone climate control, and much, much more.

Additionally, rear legroom is listed at 36.1 inches, rear shoulder room is 55.3 inches and rear hip room is 53.9 inches. Cargo volume is listed at 16.8 cubic feet with rear seats upright. Fold the rear seats down and cargo volume increases to 53.7 cubic feet.

Exterior design

The NX 300h’s sporty design features eight different available paint colors, including hues such as Eminent White, Silver Lining Metallic (first used on the Lexus IS), Meteor Blue Mica, Nebula Gray Pearl and Obsidian.

Beginning with its signature Lexus spindle grille and moving all the way to its integrated rear spoiler, the 2015 Lexus NX 300h features a unique, sporty style with details such as 17-inch, 10-spoke aluminum wheels (18-inch wheels are available) and shark fin antenna.
