To our loyal subscribers, casual readers and our many dedicated advertisers:

We thank you so very much!

The Examiner has once again experienced a record-setting year. While others in our business continue to lay off personnel and ship jobs to India, we at The Examiner continue to grow.

For that, we thank you.

In 2011, we added the Greater Orange edition of the Business Journal to complement our Beaumont Business Journal and Port Arthur Business Journal, our monthly business newspapers, and our newest online venture, a daily deals Web site fashioned after Living Social and Groupon found in major metropolitan areas. This newest initiative enhances our product line to offer our readers value and our advertisers the ability to increase their exposure and business.

In 2011, we also saw our single copy and home delivery subscriptions increase. The National Newspaper Association in 2011 recognized The Examiner with many awards for journalism including the best local news coverage in the United States among large weekly publications.

In the year ahead, we extend our commitment of exposing corrupt business practices and the misdeeds of public officials, as well as celebrating the good in so many of our fellow Southeast Texans.

The Examiner is a Southeast Texas publication, owned, managed and staffed by Southeast Texans. Our commitment to have valued publications, to be good corporate citizens and to enhance the lives of others is unending. We pledge to advocate for those who have little or no voice. That is what your local newspaper is supposed to do.

It is our hope and belief that 2012 will bring more stability and employment opportunities to Southeast Texas. The forecast for our economy is promising. We at The Examiner will work hard to keep you informed of the changes as they happen.

We have included in this year-in-review edition stories that helped to make a difference in the lives of Southeast Texans. When appropriate, updates were added to alert our readers as to what actions have taken place in each story or what might happen in order to bring those stories to resolution.Let us know what you are thinking and what you’d like to see covered in our pages in the year ahead. We’re always happy to hear from you and welcome your suggestions and input. It is our prayer that the New Year will be one of blessing, prosperity and joy. Have a wonderful New Year.
