Sponsors needed for July 25 Cops Helping Kids Fishing Tournament
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Association is hosting the fifth annual “Cops Helping Kids” Saltwater Fishing Tournament on July 25 and 26 at the Dick Dowling State Park in Sabine Pass, and they need help to meet their fundraising goal of $100,000.
Last year’s event raised more than $90,000 with a total of 203 fishing teams competing. This year, the association aims to surpass that mark, and is requesting participants and sponsors needed to achieve their goal. With the community’s help, the association can continue its support of the Garth House and other children’s charities in Jefferson County. The association is committed to helping local charities and the children of Jefferson County, according to Jefferson County Deputy and association member Erik Boman. In addition to the Garth House, the group has donated funds to Boys’ Haven, Girls’ Haven, CASA, area schools and others.
Sponsorships are as follows:
For $5,000, Premium Sponsors will receive five teams, have the choice of either a guided waterfowl tour or a fishing trip for up to four people, five entries into sponsor drawings, premium advertising on all shirts, banners and more, and reserved banquet seating. The first four premium sponsors will be featured in television spots promoting the event.
Platinum Sponsors will receive three teams, three entries into sponsor drawings, and recognition on the sponsor board, all for $1,000.
Gold Sponsors will, for $500, receive two teams, two entries into sponsor drawings, and recognition on the sponsor board.
Silver Sponsors will have one team, one entry into sponsor drawings, and recognition on the sponsor board for $300.
Sponsor drawings are for hunting, fishing and other trips or activities that can be used by sponsors or to entertain clients and friends.
All entrants are invited to attend the banquet and auction/raffles on Friday, July 25, at the Port Arthur Civic Center. Steak dinner with trimmings and drinks is included in all sponsorships.
If you wish to attend the banquet only, tickets are $60 for singles and $100 for couples.
Boman says this year is even more exciting than the previous tournaments.
“This year, we have three events going on simultaneously,” he explained. “We are offering raffle tickets for a $20 donation. The raffle items include a Honda TRX 500 4-wheeler, a custom built AR-15 rifle, a Beretta A400 Extrema 12-gauge shotgun, and a Remington Model 11-87 20-gauge shotgun.”
According to Boman, the funds from last year’s event benefited numerous organizations and individuals.
“We’ve tried to spread the money out as much as we could in an attempt to help on as many fronts as we could,” said Boman. “We donated money to the PN-G fishing team to help the students purchase needed equipment. We donated money to the Hamshire-Fannett School districts so students could be taken on field trips which would not have happened, and we donated money to each high school’s project graduation. We sponsor students by also attending the local youth fairs and purchasing their show animals. We gave to the Garth House, the SALT clubs Kid’s Fish tournament, to Boys Haven, and to the MDA. We also helped out families who had children that were in need of medical help.”
