Q. What are my legal rights as far as forcing the parents of a child my son was playing with to pay his medical bills? My 5-year-old son was playing on their property with other children, and was hit in the eye by a ball thrown by their son. Shouldn’t their homeowners insurance pay for this injury?

In recent weeks, I have written about a very famous Texan, Larry McMurtry of Archer City. I was privileged to visit the small Texas town, meet many of its residents, shop in its old stores in the downtown area, and eat several times in the local Dairy Queen, made ultra famous in The Last Picture Show.

Q. My mother recently died. At the time of her death, she had very little property and no money. I am now getting numerous calls from a debt collector who says that because I am her sole heir, I owe her debts. The debt collector has offered fair payment terms, but I was wondering whether I really am responsible for her bills. I am becoming very upset because of all of the phone calls.

With a starting MSRP of $22,140, Kia’s popular midsize sedan enters 2016 with an all-new look. The 2016 Optima is stylishly designed with exterior dimensions that are marginally longer, taller and wider. The wheelbase has been extended to 110.4 inches (increased 0.4 inches) and the vehicle has been widened to 73.2 inches (increased 1.2 inches). Both changes enable a comfortable cabin with more shoulder room and rear seat legroom.

Fans of “Sons of Anarchy” will remember Deputy Chief David Hale, played by Texas actor Taylor Sheridan. Since the poor law man was killed off in season 3, Sheridan has concentrated his efforts on writing. First “Sicario,” the drug cartel thriller, which wowed critics earlier this year, and now this, which had its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this year and came away with rave reviews.

“Suicide Squad”

After seeing the German athletes’ team uniforms last Friday night at the opening ceremony for the Summer Olympics, I had serious doubts there could be anything as dismal and sad. That was until “Suicide Squad” premiered. Surely the powers behind this epic misfire must have known what a hard sell it would be. Why else would they schedule it against the first weekend of the Olympic Games? But they get the last laugh because, despite the critical hits, this earned over $100 million in its first weekend.

Q. I’m a landlord and paranormal investigator. I have had a lot of people ask me this question: If someone is murdered or dies in a house or apartment, does the landlord have to tell potential tenants about paranormal activity? I know when something like this happens, the spirit can stay there and make noises, like doors shutting, footsteps and names being called. Does the landlord have to disclose this information? Also, if the landlord knows that one of the houses has paranormal activity going on, is it legal for him to charge more?

Fifty years to the day after a deadly sniper attack at The University of Texas (UT) shattered the midday calm of summer in 1966, an archived edition of the Texas Medical Association’s Texas Medicine magazine details the emergency medical response to the rampage.

“The afternoon and evening were a nightmare undreamed of that morning,” the article reads. “But when the worst was over, hospital and other medical officials expressed satisfaction with the way the tragedy had been handled from the medical standpoint.”
