Food as good as mama makes

Looking for a place to grab a bite to eat in Kountze? Well, look no further than Mama Jacks. Mama Jacks is a restaurant that is big on flavor, variety and hospitality. The two-story eatery is a great spot to sit back, relax and enjoy dishes that will make you feel right at home.

Mama Jacks features a buffet, which changes from breakfast to lunch, salad bar, and dessert table, with to-order items on the menu as well. It also has two stories for expanded seating with live music starting at 6 p.m. every Friday and Saturday night. The restaurant excels in quality and variety with dishes ranging from pizza to po-boys allowing any diner to find something they like on the menu.

The side salad is a range of color, texture and taste. Mama Jacks improves on the normal salad formula by strategically adding cucumber, purple cabbage, bacon, cheese and carrot to the lettuce, tomato and croutons for a tasty twist. The ranch dressing is made in house and you can tell. The creamy texture and full flavor surpasses its store bought kin and fulfills the home- cooked promise the restaurant makes on its sign.

Mama Jack’s ribeye steak was filled with flavor and, though they offer steak sauce, it is definitely not needed. The steak cut like butter and, cooked to order, is a delight for the senses. It’s paired with two slices of buttered toast that are reminiscent of family meals on Sunday morning. Who can forget the potatoes when eating steak, the stuffed baked potato comes filled with sour cream, butter, cheese and bacon topped with green onions. The complexity of the stuffed baked potato is precisely what makes it so special. The flavorful bacon and the crunchy green onion add a great bit of texture to the delicious amalgam that is butter, potato, cheese and sour cream. And, don’t be surprised if you see an orange slice on your plate, that’s the Mama Jacks signature.

The banana pudding is a treat from heaven and should be tasted by everyone who walks through Mama Jacks’ door. The flavors of sweet vanilla and banana work together for a fusion of homemade delight. The wafers add soft yet solid bits of texture in the pudding and leaves an overall sweet memory about an especially sweet treat. With the dessert table on hand as well, customers should have plenty of choices to calm their sweet tooth.
