Tucked into Beaumont’s West End is a restaurant offering the best of two worlds complemented by fine food.

The Grill by Arfeen, Smith & Payne, located at 6680 Calder Ave., is cozy and quaint, romantic and charming, while at the same time lively and energetic — a nightly hotspot. That’s because The Grill is really two venues. Inside the glass-walled restaurant, linens drape the tables and the candles are lit. There are relaxing places of seclusion for dinners for two, large tables for family celebrations and dinners out with friends and quiet nooks for business discussions all overlooking the second venue, The Cabana.

The Grill’s Cabana is attached to the restaurant via an open patio where oversized couches, bistro tables and chairs are strewn to accommodate a stage where bands entertain weekly on Wednesday to Saturday nights. Ceiling fans whir in rhythm with the tunes and occasional dancers.

Inside the glassed-in Cabana, comfy couches and high-top tables invite patrons to surround an extensive bar and partake in the elegant cuisine of Cabana food. Savor almond dusted duck tenders, hot spinach crab and artichoke dip or an artisan cheese tasting. And if cheese is your delight, don’t miss the Spindini, the ultimate grilled cheese with olive buerre blanc sauce. It feeds more than one, but you’ll wish it was all yours.

This social party-like place where they serve specialty drinks — Deep Eddy Sweet Tea Vodka, House Sangria and a Texas Martini — is also a great spot for a casual dinner or Friday or Saturday lunch. Cabana fare includes fish tacos, grilled cheese and burgers, wedge salad and a divine spinach salad with goat cheese, candied walnuts and poppy seed dressing. Find fine dining across the patio inside the restaurant, which also has private party space to host up to 40. An award-winning wait staff and Chef Terry Bell ensure a memorable as well as a scrumptious experience.

Bell has worked with Wolfgang Puck’s catering and events team and was formerly the executive chef at the Isle of Capri, Delta Downs and L’Auberge casinos. Folks in the area may have enjoyed some of Bell’s signature dishes at Snake River Grill in L’Auberge, and he brings that same expertise and dishes at The Grill. They are delightful to the eye and pleasing to the palate.

Savor the parmesan-dusted sea bass that melts in your mouth, but not before you experience the flavorful seasonings and marinades ensconced in this pleasantly firm but flavorful fish.

Although there are many Gulf Coast delicacies on the menu – shrimp, oysters and crab – seafood is just one type of food. Select from a variety of pork, poultry and beef dishes including a chili-crusted grilled rack of lamb, veal, filet mignon or double-cut pork chops.

Enhance selections with sauces and sides. From a Stilton Applewood bacon butter to au poivre with Cognac mushroom reduction, The Grill makes specialty sauces to complement your entrée selections as well as fresh sides including julienne carrots with sea salt and Dijon aioli, grilled asparagus, roasted fingerling potatoes and broccoli with chimichurri.

Because beginnings and endings are essential, The Grill is prepared to make your before and afters exceptional. Start by choosing from one of the most extensive wine list in all of Southeast Texas. Order wines from all over the world by the glass or by the bottle; all bottles of wine are 25 percent off until 7 p.m. daily.

At meal’s end satisfy your sweet tooth with a dessert, available at both the restaurant and The Cabana. All your southern favorites like crème brûlée and bread pudding are made fresh but also consider sampling chocolate tres leches cake, key lime pie or dulce de leche cheesecake. After-dinner drinks, including a wide selection of single malt scotches and cognacs, and coffees are available to complete your culinary experience. All cocktails including scotches are offered for sampling for 1/2 price until 7 p.m.

The Grill is open Monday-Saturday from 5-10 p.m., and The Cabana is open Monday-Thursday from 3-10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to midnight. On Wednesdays, partake in Wine Down Wednesdays from 4-7 p.m. when wine representatives present wines to tastes along with some great Grill samples.
