Hemingway’s: Hidden gem of Beaumont breakfast destinations

Some of the best places to eat breakfast are ones you might not traditionally think of, and Hemingway’s Café is definitely one of those hidden gems.

The restaurant, located inside the MCM Eleganté Hotel and Conference Center in Beaumont, offers a nice, quiet atmosphere that is a welcome change from the noisy, overcrowded places where you might be accustomed to eating the most important meal of the day.

And although guests of the hotel will appreciate Hemingway’s, non-guests are welcome all the same, said Steve McGaha, general manager at the MCM Eleganté.

“It’s relaxing. It’s not hurried,” McGaha said. “We’re not trying to turn tables like an IHOP. Although it is casual dinning. … I don’t have a waiting list of names. I’m not trying to get you in and get you out. Relax and enjoy your breakfast.”

If you are in a rush, however, a breakfast buffet and omelet bar are available from 6 a.m. – 10 a.m.

“We’ll make whatever kind of omelet you want,” McGaha said.

Otherwise, you are welcome to order off the menu, which offers a wide variety of items including everything from light breakfast choices like fresh fruit, yogurt, hot oatmeal and cereals to steak and eggs, and country biscuits and gravy.

The restaurant is especially popular with businesspeople who might want to get away from the hustle and bustle of their jobs and catch up on some work on their laptops or meet with a client. A Starbucks is also conveniently located across from Hemingway’s customer service counter for those who might have a fancier taste in coffee.

Starting Oct. 2, Hemingway’s will even offer a Sunday brunch from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., which will feature both a breakfast and lunch buffet. This will be especially opportune for churchgoers, who are looking for a place to drop by and enjoy a meal after Sunday service, McGaha explained.

Even though Hemingway’s has been a mainstay of MCM Eleganté since it opened in 2004, the restaurant is adapting with the times by recently making its food available for order on Waitr, a food delivery service available through Google Play and the App Store that affords users access to the menus of many Beaumont restaurants from their favorite smart phone device.

“We started using Waitr about two and a half weeks ago,” said McGaha, who explained that the service opened up a whole new source of revenue for Hemingway’s.

“It’s really putting them in a market that they could not have otherwise entered,” said Katie Davis, public relations rep and business development manager for Waitr, regarding restaurants like Hemingway’s that do not traditionally deliver. “It’s growing their business.”

Customers can now order their favorites from the restaurant, which is also known for its lunch and dinner items.

“You get continuous service from 6 a.m. – 10 p.m.,” McGaha said. “You can get breakfast anytime. … The Asian Beef and Noodle Salad and Pecan-Crusted Chicken and Spinach Salad are lunch favorites, and the Texas Cowboy-Cut Ribeye is a popular dinner item.”

Customers can order items from the hotel’s Starbucks location as well and have them delivered through the Waitr app.

And be sure to check out Tradewinds Tavern. The bar will be offering live music Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights beginning on Labor Day. Tradewinds opens daily at 4 p.m. and features 45 varieties of beer, ale, bocks, porters and lagers, a large selection of single malt scotches and small batch bourbons as well as designer vodkas, martinis and cosmos. Guests can also order food from Hemingway’s. The MCM Eleganté Hotel is at 2355 Interstate 10 Access Road in Beaumont. For more information, call (409) 842-3600.
