Sanderson’s Restaurant & Bar: Texas-style eatery with big variety, great taste

It’s all y’all can eat up at Sanderson’s Restaurant and Bar, a totally Texas-style family eatery.

This spacious, standalone establishment, located at 2095 Highway 69 N. in Nederland just minutes from Southeast Texas Regional Airport, accommodates large parties in the main dining area, plus there’s a banquet room out back that seats up to 70.

Sink into a high-backed booth and getcha some hearty Texas fare including steaks, chicken, pasta, seafood, burgers, sandwiches, soups and salads. The extensive menu is the best palette pleaser from the top of the Panhandle to the southern tip of the Lone Star State.

Nowhere will you find Texas Toothpicks, thin strips of sweet yellow onions and mild jalapenos coasted with crispy, spicy batter and served with ranch dressing, or Bayou Devils, Cajun spiced and seared bacon-wrapped shrimp blackened to mouth-watering perfection.

Spice up these authentic Texas specialties with one of Sanderson’s homemade sauces, like the jalapeno glaze or the “famous” glaze. These glazes are made with fresh fruit juices, seasonings and spices for a sweet, spicy taste that is delicious and addictive. Dip fries, shrimp, steak or, heck, just dip your finger and savor the unique medley of flavors.

The barbeque sauce is homemade, too. Try it out over the all-you-can-eat rib and shrimp platter or just getcha a full rack with two southern sides like fried okra, mashed potatoes, black-eyed peas, onion rings or baked beans, to name a few.

Sanderson’s is known for its sauces and glazes, but Texas Trash makes them the talk of the town! Texas Trash is a homemade combination of shrimp, crawfish and mushrooms that can be served over any dinner but is especially tasty on sirloins and Sanderson’s 12-ounce Angus ribeye. You might say Texas Trash gets around, cause the regulars put it on their chicken fried steaks – center cut sirloin steak with country gravy served with french fries.

Don’t get all worked up if you’re not a beef eater. Sanderson’s seafood is as notorious in these parts for fresh goodness as are the steaks.

Owner Everett Sanderson himself likes the Catfish Ponchartrain, two catfish filets blackened and covered in Sanderson’s secret Ponchartrain sauce and served with rice pilaf and a side. Other fish includes tilapia, tuna and salmon. Order tilapia Creole style blackened or in an Asian kalbe sauce over pilaf. The salmon is grilled and basted in Sanderon’s “famous” glaze, and the tuna is peppered, crusted and grilled. For those who can’t decide which seafood selection to take, just order the seafood platter and taste it all – shrimp, fish, crawfish tails and stuffed crab! During Lent, Sanderson’s offers Lenten specials every Friday for lunch and dinner.

Sanderson’s is open Monday-Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. On Sundays, every dessert is free! Getcha some Oreo or Reese’s pie.

Every day lunch specials include a combination of choices – burgers and fries, chicken croissant sandwich, chicken fried steak sandwich, blackened tilapia filet, pulled pork sandwich, plus a variety of soups and salads, like pecan or Cobb salad.

Accompanying all these Texas vittles is Texas wine. Order one of the award-winning wines of Bruno and George like the white orchard pear wine or Arapaho blackberry wine. Sanderson’s also features Llano wines from the Panhandle and several from Messina Hof Winery

It’s always happy at Sanderson’s but happier with drink specials Monday-Friday from 4-8 p.m. On Wednesday, margaritas are $3 and Thursday, Long Island iced teas are $3.

Kids 12 and under eat for $4.99 and can choose from burgers, shrimp, chicken tenders, corn dogs and more.

Talk to Everett and his staff about catering your next event. They’ll prepare anything from the menu or whatever you’d like to serve!

Ya’ll fixin’ to eat out? Sanderson’s is a Texas restaurant for hungry family and friends.
