Classic Movie Night: 'The Wizard of Oz'

Classic Movie Night goes “classic” with one of the most iconic films in movie history — The Wizard of Oz — on Friday, April 7, at the historic Jefferson Theatre in downtown Beaumont. Based of the 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, the movie was released in 1939 and stars Judy Garland as Dorothy, who gets swept away from her farm in Kansas by a tornado to the fantasy land of Oz. While there, she meets new friends the Tin Man, Cowardly Lion and Scarecrow as she makes her way to see the Wizard to find a way back home. CBS began an annual showing of the movie in 1956, and it went on to be the most-viewed motion picture on television syndication. The film is 1 hour, 42 minutes and is Rated G. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the movie begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5. Beer, wine and other concessions will be available. For more information, view beaumontcityevents.com or call (409) 838-3435.
