Legally Blonde The Musical at the Lutcher Theater

“OMG you guys!!!” Legally Blonde — The Musical is coming back to the Lutcher Theater on Saturday, Jan. 19, at 7:30 p.m. America’s favorite blonde, Elle Woods, is ready to prove who’s in charge (again) as Legally Blonde — The Musical takes America by storm. The ultimate Broadway tribute to girl power, Legally Blonde will take you from the UCLA sorority house to the Harvard halls of justice with the timely coming of age story of Broadway’s brightest heroine.

Based on the beloved movie, Legally Blonde follows the transformation of Elle as she tackles stereotypes, sexism, snobbery and scandal in pursuit of her dreams, and proves that you can be both legally blonde and the smartest person in the room. The movie featured Reese Witherspoon as Elle and was released in 2001 and was nominated for several Golden Globe Awards. It went on to gross more than $141 million at the box office and spawn a sequel, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde in 2003 as well as a straight to DVD series, Legally Blondes.

Directed by Jeffrey Moss with music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe, book by Heather Hach, and choreography by Bob Richard, the musical appeared on Broadway in 2007 and received several Tony nominations. It joined the millionaire’s club in June 2007, earning $1,003,282 in one week.

The musical was also filmed for television in front of a live audience in September 2007 as well as two other dates where it was filmed without an audience. It was then aired on MTV later that year. Legally Blonde then moved to the West End where it earned three Laurence Olivier Awards.

Fabulously fun and international award-winning, the musical features Elle Woods (played by Maris McCulley) as she appears to have it all. Her life is turned upside down, however, when her boyfriend Warner Huntington III (James Oblak) dumps her so he can start getting more serious about his life and attend Harvard Law. Determined to get him back, Elle uses her ingenuity and charm to get into Harvard too. School begins with endless struggles, but with the help of her new friends, including Emmett (Woody Minshew), Paulette (Jill Taylor Anthony) and Vivienne (Berlande Millus), Elle quickly realizes her potential, and her true assets, as she sets out to prove herself to the world and make everyone a believer.

This contemporary, sassy musical moves at a breakneck pace, driven by memorable songs and explosive dances. Legally Blonde — The Musical warms the heart by proving that self-discovery can be way too much fun and hilarious to boot. Tickets are $55-$70 and can be purchased online at lutcher.org, at the Lutcher Box office at 707 Main Ave. in Orange, or by calling (409) 886-5535.
