Greenwood to headline Texas Bar-B-Q Festival

The 30th annual Texas Bar-B-Q Festival presented by the Vidor Chamber of Commerce will be held Sept. 14-16 at Claiborne West Park (4105 North) located between Vidor and Orange, just off I-10. The Texas Bar-B-Q Festival is not only a great barbeque cook-off contest; it also has carnival rides, vendors, games, live music and scholarship pageant for young ladies from the Vidor area. Festival times are Friday, 5-10 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. to 12 a.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will also be a horseshoe and washer board tournament on Saturday at 10 a.m. Live music schedule includes Friday night performances by Mixx Fixxer and Scott McGill. Performing on the stage at Halliburton Pavilion on Saturday is Texas Thunder, BB and Company, Centerfire and headlining will be Lee Greenwood.


Greenwood, 69, has charted seven No. 1 country singles including “Somebody’s Gonna Love You,” “Going, Going, Gone,” “Dixie Road,” “I Don’t Mind the Thorns (If You’re the Rose),” “Don’t Underestimate My Love For You,” “Hearts Aren’t Made to Break (They’re Made to Love)” and “Mornin’ Ride.” Other popular tunes include “I.O.U.,” “Ring on Her Finger, Time on Her Hands,” “I Still Believe,” “Holdin’ a Good Hand,” “You Got a Good Love Comin’” and “God Bless the USA.”
Entrance to the festival is $5 each day. To see Greenwood perform, festival goers will also have to purchase a $15 ticket.

Texas GatorFest


Just west of Beaumont lies a hidden gem of a party — the annual Texas GatorFest at Fort Anahuac Park in Anahuac. Festival dates are Sept. 13-16. Daily tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for military, seniors (65 and older) and children (6-12).


Expect plenty of food, including alligator (at least 10 different ways), jambalaya, red beans, etoufee, kabobs, funnel cakes and other festival goodies to much on. Try your luck in the horseshoe and/or washer tournament; take airboat rides; enjoy carnival rides; and take a marsh tour via the Waterborn Education Center.
Let’s not forget about the music. Scheduled to perform on Sept. 13 is Jobe Wilson, Jason Cassidy and headlining will be Casey Donahew. Headlining on Sept. 14 will be everyone’s favorite Cajun, Wayne Toups, along with the Zydeco Dots and Chubby Carrier. Scheduled to perform on Sept. 15 is Longneck Road, Buck Yeager Band, The Rankin Twins, Bri Bagwell, Josh Abbott Band and headlining will be the Randy Rogers Band. The final day of music concludes on Sept. 16 with Jody Booth, Randy Marshall and headliners Al White and Chaparral.


Festival times are 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Sept. 13-14, 10 a.m. to 12 a.m. on Sept. 15 and 12-6 p.m. on Sept. 16.
