Fourth of July in Orange

It’s a free concert and fireworks celebration as the Orange Convention & Visitors Bureau hosts its annual Fourth of July celebration Tuesday, July 4, at the Riverfront Boardwalk & Pavilion (601 W. Division) in downtown Orange.

Beginning at 5 p.m., vendors will line the area, offering food, drinks and snow cones as well as plenty of children’s activities. The sky will light up with fireworks at 9 p.m.

“The community really looks forward to this event every year,” said Brandy Judice, CVB Coordinator. “It’s a great show, and the CVB enjoys being the host site to partner in putting it on. The Fourth of July concert and fireworks display is a special celebration that everyone is sure to enjoy.”

At 7 p.m., Dustin Sonnier Band will take the stage. The band, which plays country, southern rock, and a touch of Cajun, consists of Sonnier on guitar and vocals, Chevy Foreman (bass), Ross Richard (drums), Tony Ardoin (guitar), Laine Thibodeaux (pedal steel guitar), and Jason Bergeron (fiddle).

“Growing up, we listened to Keith Whitley and George Jones until my Dad went to work,” said Sonnier, who was born in Vatican, Louisiana. “Then my mom, a rocker at heart, introduced me to Ozzy, Van Halen and Marshall Tucker.”

Sonnier picked up the guitar at 13 and joined a Christian country band and spent the next few years learning to write music as well as sing.

It was in 2006 when Sonnier started his own band and quickly became a success in the local Lafayette scene, playing seven nights a week.

Last year, Sonnier released his first six-song EP titled “Country.” Three are originals from Sonnier plus a cover of the 1972 Conway Twitty hit, “I See the Want To in Your Eyes.”

Sonnier’s first single to hit the Texas Regional Radio Report was “Whiskey Makes Her Miss Me,” which has more than 315,000 views on YouTube.
