Inter-Tribal Powwow

Inter-Tribal Powwow

Native American Cultural Events will host its first Inter-Tribal Powwow inside the Beaumont Civic Center on Saturday, Oct. 22, beginning at 10 a.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and children 12 and under are in free. “More than 50 different Indian dancers from around the country will be there,” said Henry Pipps, event organizer. “It will be an educational and spiritual event.” Pipps is an 81-year-old Korean War veteran and Choctaw Apache who will participate in the Gourd Dance, which will be held at noon and 3 p.m. Gourd dances were solely for war chiefs, warriors and priests of the tribe that were held to honor a warrior, or honor their enemy who they defeated. There will also be plenty of vendors on hand selling items such as turquoise, dolls and baskets. The Grand Entry is scheduled for 5 p.m. followed by the Inter-Tribal Dance at 6 p.m. For more information about the event, view nativeamericanculturalevents.org.
