It's a Wonderful Life

The Jefferson Theatre (345 Fannin) in downtown Beaumont is rolling out the red carpet on Friday, Nov. 18, in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the release of the film It’s a Wonderful Life. Doors will open at 6 p.m. for live entertainment, craft beer and cocktails, and fun for the entire family, with the film beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased Civic Center box office. Attendees are encouraged to wear 40s fashion and walk the red carpet.

In March 1947, the Jefferson Theatre hosted a premiere of It’s A Wonderful Life where the film’s star, Jimmy Stewart, and director Frank Capra were in attendance. The Lamar University Archives and Special Collections will be on hand at the event with photos and memorabilia commemorating the historic premiere, and the Lamar University Cardinal Jazz Messengers will perform. The Beaumont Heritage Society will host their Heritage Happy Hour prior to the film and will have information about the historic Jefferson Theatre.

It’s a Wonderful Life was released Dec. 20, 1946, and stars James Stewart as George Bailey, a despairingly frustrated businessman who has given up on life on Christmas Eve. A guardian angel played by Henry Travers appears and shows what life would have been like if he never existed.
