Kid Fest

Kid Fest

The popular Kid Fest will return to the Carl Parker Center on the campus of Lamar State College-Port Arthur on Saturday, June 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Clear Channel Radio and Valero Port Arthur Refinery have once again teamed up to bring hundreds of kids the opportunity to enjoy activities such as fishing, dancing, face painting, arts and crafts and high-flying acrobatic dunking basketball action.

“The event was phenomenal last year,” said Barbara Phillips, public affairs manager for Valero. “We had over 2,000 people attend the event and lots of exhibitors and great entertainment. The community seemed to enjoy it and we got lots of support from other community and industry sponsors.”

Two very popular attractions from last year’s event that are returning include KidFish and Team AcroDunk.

KidFish is a traveling non-profit organization based in Little River, which is located between Austin and Temple, dedicated to facilitating and educating a new generation of outdoor enthusiasts.

KidFish brings a portable fishing pond indoors that allows youngsters to fish. According to their Web site, KidFish hopes to instill in children a deep appreciation for the sport of fishing as well as awareness and respect for the conservation of the environment and its natural resources. Fishing is a lifelong pursuit that is as much about spending quality time on the water with family and friends as it is about catching lots of fish. The outreach programs give children and families the opportunity to experience a tradition by introducing them to the balance of nature and the concept of stewardship.

If you see people flying people through the air — don’t be alarmed. It’s the nationally touring Team AcroDunk. The group of basketball athletes performs high-flying, gravity defying, acrobatic slam-dunk action. Team AcroDunk recruits children into the sport of thinking and challenges them to approach training their brain with the same intensity, passion and focus that star athletes train their bodies are the premier providers of acro-dunking entertainment and inspiration. The team has been seen on shows like “America’s Got Talent,” “Ripley’s Believe It Or Not” and featured on ESPN’s Sportcenter Top 10.

The fun-filled day will also focus on education, safety, environmental practice plus visit with members of local agencies.

“One of Valero’s goals and commitments is to support community events, especially when it benefits children, so this is a perfect chance for us to do something for the children in our neighborhood,” added Phillips.

Phillips also stressed the importance of others helping out with the second annual Kid Fest including Allen Samuels Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep, Christus Hospital St. Mary’s, Port Arthur Industry Group, Port Arthur Steam Energy, Motiva Enterprises, Veolia ES Technical Solutions,  Academy, Chevron Phillips, Synergy Federal Credit Union, Air Products, New Eagle Cleaners, Port Arthur Federal Credit Union, Michael Fuljenz Universal Coin & Bullion, Conn’s, Lamar State College, Total, Port Arthur EDC and Little Caesars Pizza.

I'm not sure why but this site is loading very slow for me.
Is anyone else having this problem or is it a problem on my end?
I'll check back later on and see if the problem still exists.
