Spirit of Texas Festival

Spirit of Texas Festival

Everything is bigger in Texas and to prove it there will be a triple threat of Guinness World Record attempts on Saturday, March 4 headlining the inaugural Spirit of Texas Festival in College Station.

More than 5,000 pounds of the Texas State food cooked up in a custom 14-foot wide, 4-foot deep pot. It is the Brazos Valley’s attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest serving of chili, which is now held by North Dakota. Sanctioned by the Guinness Book of World Records, a Guinness Adjudicator will be onsite.

Next, they will attempt to turn that chili into the world’s largest Frito Pie that wii be served up in a massive 10-foot Texas shaped pan crafted by students at Rudder High School in Bryan.

Record Three will be to create the largest Texas 2-Step dance, led by Brazos Valley’s very own Lil’ Wranglers and Elite Wranglers. Getting into the Guinness book will require at least 2,000 boot-scooting enthusiasts.

The Spirit of Texas Festival is not just about records it is about all things Texas.

Up to 65,000 people are expected to fill Wolf Pen Creek Park in College Station during the four-day run March 2-5. Admission is free but there is plenty on the line- a group of professional competitors, Major League Eaters — some of the same guys and gals who eat hot dogs at Coney Island on July 4th each year will be gorge their way to $5,000 in cash and prizes at an event officially sanctioned by the International Federation of Competitive Eating.

BBQ grillers will compete for $10,000 in prizes in one of the state’s largest BBQ cook-offs, sanctioned by the International Barbecue Cookers Association. Food trucks will vie for $11,000 in the Spirit of Texas CurbSide SmackDown.
