Spookfest, Oct. 31

Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown Museum, on the Lamar University campus, will host the first-ever Spindletop Spookfest on Halloween evening, October 31, 2013, from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with trick or treating through the boomtown buildings and fun activities for “ghouls” and “goblins” of all ages.

“We have thought about having some kind of Halloween event for a couple of years,” said museum director Mark Osborne. “Spookfest is about dressing up and having some fun in a safe and unique location.”

Special guests from the Women’s Club of Beaumont, the Thomas K. Lamb, Jr. family, the Beaumont Camera Club, the Lamar University Webb Society, the Texas Academy for Leadership in the Humanities, the Vidor High School History Club, and the Big Thicket Outlaws will be handing out candy to trick or treaters. Plus visitors can try their luck at the pumpkin bowling, make a “Dum Dum Ghost,” and have their fortunes told. There may even be a few spooky surprises in store!

Spindletop Spookfest is free and open to the public. Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown is located on Hwy. 69 at Jimmy Simmons Blvd. in Beaumont. Plenty of free parking is available. For more information, please call (409) 880-1750 or contact the museum at gladyscityinfo [at] gmail [dot] com.
