International successful rock act The Guess Who will perform inside the Grand Event Center at the Golden Nugget in Lake Charles, La., on Friday, June 17, 8:30 p.m. Tickets for this 21 and older show are $27.50-$36.50 and can be purchased online at ticketmaster.com. From Winnipeg, Canada, the group formed in 1965 and the current lineup features two originals in Jim Kale (bass, vocals) and Garry Peterson (drums, vocals).

The Gig on Crockett Street welcomes Scott Stapp, the voice of the rock band Creed, on Thursday, Aug. 4. Doors open at 7 p.m. and tickets for the 18-and-older show are $20 and can be purchased online at outhousetickets.com. Stapp, 42, has released two solo records and has had a few tracks hit the Billboard rock chart including “The Great Divide” and “Slow Suicide.” Creed disbanded in 2004 before returning for a few reunion tours that fizzled out by 2012.

Local act Good Grief will perform at Thirsty’s on Friday, June 10, with special guests Boxing Dei Dei. Thirsty’s is at 229 Dowlen Road in Beaumont. Good Grief, who formed in 2014, consists of Melody Boyd (vocals), Michelle Blackwell (vocals, guitar, bass), Stevo Romero (bass, guitar) and Haley Hardin (drums), who describe themselves as having an eclectic sound and taste in music, which shows in their craft and delivery.

As an alternative to the usual summer fare, this will do nicely. It’s a tragic love story based on the best seller by JoJo Moyes, who also scripted the movie, so book fans can rejoice – it sticks pretty close to the prose. Sappy where it needs to be, “Me Before You” mixes the humor with the gravitas to balance the sad undercurrent and benefits greatly from the leading performance of Emilia Clarke.

Food delivery service Waitr, which was founded in Lake Charles and operates in Baton Rouge, Houston, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Brazosport, and The Woodlands, is now available in the Southeast Texas area.

Jazz at the Lake returns on Thursday, June 16, at the downtown Event Centre (700 Crockett St.) from 5:30-7:30 p.m. with a free concert from Dean James. James, a jazz sensation, literally calls Beaumont his home away from home. “I have a very huge fan base in the tri-city area of Beaumont, Port Arthur and Orange,” said James, who was born in California and now resides in Houston.
