‘The Example’

The Port Arthur Public Library and the African American Cultural Society will host a screening of the historical fiction short film “The Example,” on Thursday, June 23, at the Port Arthur Library Gallery, 4615 Ninth Ave., Port Arthur, at 6 p.m. The event is free to the public. Children ages 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Fans of Panda Express can now rejoice. The Chinese-American quick-serve chain restaurant opened in Beaumont on June 3 and is already seeing long lines of customers.For those who are familiar with Panda, everything should be business as usual, but many Southeast Texans are new to the restaurant, said Fufu Abdelsamad, general manager of the Beaumont Panda Express location.

While the producers of this probably weren’t planning on a sequel, the 2013 movie featuring the Four Horsemen was so well received it begged for more story. Again, you must suspend any disbelief to enjoy this second serving of cotton candy. It’s as fluffy as that confection and just as enjoyable.

Portraits of Gutierrez will be available at the event to have signed by the Miss Dallas 2016 winner.

International successful rock act The Guess Who will perform inside the Grand Event Center at the Golden Nugget in Lake Charles, La., on Friday, June 17, 8:30 p.m. Tickets for this 21 and older show are $27.50-$36.50 and can be purchased online at ticketmaster.com. From Winnipeg, Canada, the group formed in 1965 and the current lineup features two originals in Jim Kale (bass, vocals) and Garry Peterson (drums, vocals).
