Fun in a nutshell at Groves Pecan Festival 2017

It’s time to celebrate the lovely pecan as the 48th annual Groves Pecan Festival is now four full days beginning Thursday, Oct. 26, and running through Sunday, Oct. 29, at Lions Park (6200 Jackson). If you are looking for “fun,” you can find it in a “nutshell.”

Families are welcome to attend and eat your way through the food area with ice cream, funnel cakes, pecan pie, curly fries, gumbo, hamburgers, barbecue, pork-a-bobs, boudain balls, nachos, pistolettes, breakfast food then you can wash it down with freshly squeezed homemade lemonade.

Bayou Games Zombie Hunt

It’s your last chance to brave Louisiana’s annual outdoor Zombie Hunt hosted by Bayou Games in Sulphur. Recognized as Halloween’s “must-do” family-friendly attraction, the seasonal paintball and laser tag event is set to kick off the premiere of the newly expanded Bayou Games Paintball Complex, a national-caliber outdoor arena at 681 Kim St. in Sulphur.

The City of Beaumont’s annual Rocktoberfest will take place Friday, Oct. 27, at the Jefferson Theatre with both inside and outside events. Sponsored by Saint Arnold Brewing Company and 2-Row/Del Papa Distributing, gates will open at 5:30 p.m. and feature food, beer and musical entertainment from the John Evans Band along with Cranford Hollow. There will also be a screening of the 1975 iconic musical screwball comedy The Rocky Horror Picture Show at 9 p.m.

The Commodores, the United States Navy Band’s premiere jazz band from Washington, D.C., will perform a free concert open to the public Sunday, Oct. 29, in downtown Beaumont at the Julie Rogers Theatre with doors opening at 3 p.m.

Beaumont Children’s Museum will host its seventh annual Touch-A-Truck on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Beaumont Civic Center. This is a unique opportunity for children to explore vehicles of all types — public service, emergency, utility, construction, transportation, delivery — all in one place. Children will be allowed to touch, climb on and ask questions about their favorite trucks in a safe, supervised environment. Accompanying personnel will teach the children about the equipment displayed and how the machines help the community.
