The Rotary Club of Beaumont recently announced the selection of the club’s scholarship recipients, Beaumont ISD seniors Marij Wali Janjua and Victoria Michelle White.

Memorials, objects that serve to remind of a person or event, have been erected for various people, occasions and organizations from the Haymarket Martyr Memorial to the National September 11th Memorial & Museum. Memorials serve a much-needed function for citizens to remember and, therefore, live with a greater passion. The Big Thicket is now host to one of these remembrances thanks to Joshua Davis, West Brook freshman.

Man of the hour … Rep. Beto O’Rourke came to town Thursday, May 31, for a fundraiser dinner in his honor and packed the Beaumont Civic Center with supporters. Cocktails were the first thing on the agenda, with Cade Bernsen taking the stage to introduce the honored guest. Russ Waddill also welcomed the enthusiastic crowd to a huge round of applause. Gold sponsors Bernsen Law Firm, Ferguson Law Firm, Provost Umphrey and Reaud, Morgan & Quinn were elated with the turnout and the support from the many guests.

The defending Southland Conference champion Lamar women’s soccer team is offering a pair of one-week youth soccer camps this summer for boys and girls from ages 4 to 13. All camps will be at the LU Soccer Complex.

Camps are scheduled for June 11-15 and July 9-13. The camps for youngsters 4-6 years of age will run from 9-11:30 a.m. each day, while the camps for players 7-13 run from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Friday.

Ford Park announced that country music sensation Toby Keith along with special guest Granger Smith will perform outdoors at Ford Pavilion on Saturday, June 30, to celebrate Ford Park’s 15th anniversary and the rejuvenation of the Pavilion. This year, Keith honors the 25th anniversary of the release of his debut single with his aptly named tour “Should’ve Been A Cowboy XXV Tour,” presented by Ford F Series and Beaumont Emergency Center.
