Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks in Spielberg's The Post

‘The Post’

Starring: Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks

Director: Steven Spielberg

Rated: PG-13

Watching this made me wonder what venerable journalist and editor Ben Bradlee would make of the current climate for his profession. Terms like “fake news” would be an anathema to a man like Bradley, who based his reputation and that of the Washington Post on telling the truth — or in many cases, speaking truth to power. Few did it better than Bradley, who passed away in 2014.

Dill weed

Now don’t start asking, “Why are we reading about a weed?” This weed is invariably in the dishes of most Eastern European and Scandinavian dishes, and it is delicious and super easy to grow. Dill weed is that super fresh herb of winter.

Carl Parker

My father was never able to finish high school, having to drop out to help feed the family. Nevertheless, he taught me many valuable lessons that have stuck with me over the years. One of his sayings was, “You can’t borrow your way out of debt.”

In talking with one of my grandchildren the other day, I discovered a phenomenon that has not changed since I was a teen, and believe me, that has been a very long time now. (I celebrated my 75th birthday on Dec. 23, 2017). He wanted what he did not have, when just a few weeks ago, he wanted what he now has.
