Interview with Kristen May of Flyfleaf; band to perform Oct. 7 at Scout Bar

Platinum recording artist Flyleaf will return to Houston on Tuesday, Oct. 7 in support of their new studio release Between the Stars at Scout Bar (18307 Egret Bay Blvd).

This will be the band’s first full-length record with vocalist Kristen May, who replaced the departing Lacey Sturm in 2012. With a devoted fan base, the band launched a campaign via to help crowd-fund the new project. Fans were able to take an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and hang out with the band as they recorded the album. It was also the first time that Sameer Bhattacharya (guitar), Jared Hartmann (guitar), Pat Seals (bass), and James Culpepper (drums) along with May worked with producer Don Gilmore, whose resume includes Linkin Park, Three Days Grace and Avril Lavigne.

Flyeaf’s self-titled debut in in 2005 sold more than 1 million units and their follow-up, Memento Mori, in 2009 devoured a “sophomore slump jinx” by reaching No. 1 on multiple charts.

We spoke with Kristen May before the tour kicked off about the new record, their loyal fan base and dealing with the pressures of being a new lead singer of an established national rock act.
