LMFAO party rockin' in Houston

LMFAO works. You may think they are quirky, too kiddish, or a fly-by-night fad. Well, you’re wrong. LMFAO is successful across the board and the duo of Redfoo and SkyBlu are loved by fans of all ages.

The Los Angeles duo headlined the Sorry For Party Rocking Tour at the Toyota Center in Houston on June 12. My photog (Sir David Block) and I endured a massive thunderstorm before heading into the venue and I thought surely the bad weather would scare away concert goers. Not.

I last saw Redfoo (the one with the afro) and BlueSky (Redfoo’s nephew) opening for Ke$ha last summer and now they are headlining arena shows, which seem to draw big crowds.

Every song is catchy, sort of like a DJ Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince vibe, but with a more mature subject matter. When you eyes weren’t fixated on the two, you were scanning around at blow-up zebras, confetti rain, a plethora of dancers and dancing robots. They literally had it all. It was like bringing Vegas to Toys ‘R’ Us and mixing it up in a bowl of Fruit Loops.

What’s impressive is the fact that LMFAO has just two studio albums, but the two have been in such hot demand they’ve collaborated with other artists such as Lil’ John, Dirt Nasty, The Crystal Method, Pitbull, and others.

Though these guys may not be able to remain relevant for years to come, they sure are throwing a party while they're here.

Opening for LMFAO were a slew of artists including Far East Movement, DJ Sidney Sampson, Eva Simons and Matthew Koma.

Of course Far East Movement has a No. 1 single to their name, “Like a G6,” and have other songs that have charted such as “2gether,” “If I was You (OMG),” “Live My Life” and my personal favorite, “Rocketeer.”

Who I was really impressed with was 28-year-old Amsterdam native Eva Simons. She’s already had two songs chart on the Billboard dance charts including “I Don’t Like You” and “Take Over Control.” This girl has the look and the pipes. Interscope Records hit a home run with Eva.
