T.G. Sheppard live at Honky Tonk Texas Jan 27

T.G Sheppard

It’s a night of classic country as T.G. Sheppard performs at Honky Tonk Texas in Silsbee on Saturday, Jan. 27, at 7 p.m. Sheppard, now 73, saw 21 of his songs go No. 1 including 14 between 1974-86 and eight consecutive between 1980-82. His first two releases were chart-toppers in “Devil in the Bottle” and “Tryin’ to Beat the Morning Home.” Other big hits include “Last Cheater’s Waltz,” “Party Time,” “Only One You,” “War is Hell (On the Homefront Too),” “Do You Wanna Go to Heaven” and “Slow Burn.” In 1988, he opened his private residence in the Great Smoky Mountains as a bed and breakfast. The 160-year-old log home, built high atop Moon Mountain, was an instant success and is still a popular tourist destination, although T.G. no longer owns the property. In 1995, he took a two-year hiatus from the road to perform exclusively for eight months a year at T.G. Sheppard’s Theater In The Smokies, a state-of-the-art theater in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains. Not bad for someone who quit high school at the age of 15. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online at honkytonktexas.us. The venue is at 2389 US 96 North in Silsbee.
