From the heart … The Art Museum of Southeast Texas is hosting The Art of Giving Tuesday, July 24, from 5:30-7:30pm. The Art of Giving is an informational event with discussion by Beaumont attorneys Kate Eckhart and Anna Scheurich about planned giving and why leaving a legacy is important. There will also be a silent auction featuring fine artwork such as clay objects, prints and painting. Complimentary appetizers and open bar will be provided. Musical weekend … Starting Thursday evening at the Event Center, the City of Beaumont once again hosted Jazz at the Lake with Jimmy Simmons followed by The Flava Band. Several hours of magical music was enjoyed by a large group of jazz lovers. Swaying to the sounds of the talented musicians were Virginia and Ralph Jordan, Nancy Cook and Randy Heydenburg, Rozanne and Brian Blount, Scott Holtmyer, Velma Martin, Susan Simmons, Dean Cornwell, Lenny Caballero, Bobbi Wied, Catherine Armstrong and Kit Ohmstede, to name a few.

Man of the hour … Rep. Beto O’Rourke came to town Thursday, May 31, for a fundraiser dinner in his honor and packed the Beaumont Civic Center with supporters. Cocktails were the first thing on the agenda, with Cade Bernsen taking the stage to introduce the honored guest. Russ Waddill also welcomed the enthusiastic crowd to a huge round of applause. Gold sponsors Bernsen Law Firm, Ferguson Law Firm, Provost Umphrey and Reaud, Morgan & Quinn were elated with the turnout and the support from the many guests.

You have to have heart … The American Heart Association hosted its annual Go Red for Women Luncheon recently at the Beaumont Event Centre. The luncheon raises funds for cardiovascular disease and stroke research, awareness and education. This year’s honoree was Pamela St. Amand of Legacy Community Health. Jill Grounds of Cardiac Consultants was the keynote speaker and spoke on the risks of cardiovascular disease for women.

The NRF Queen and her court … Queen Neches LXX Jordin Bourg, daughter of Vonnie and Eric Bourg and a senior at West Brook High Schol, was crowned queen Saturday evening, April 14, at the Julie Rogers Theatre in Beaumont.

Applause, applause … for our fabulous Betty Greenberg! The amazing lady who chaired and orchestrated so many fundraisers in this wonderful city was honored Friday evening, March 23, at the Betty Greenberg Performing Arts Center on her 90th b-day. Friends and family members enjoyed delightful bites, cocktails and conversation catch-up at the beginning of the evening.

Luncheon of love … Recently the Alzheimer’s Association hosted the 2018 Family Portrait Luncheon at the MCM Eleganté to a sold-out crowd. Elizabeth Waddill and Ashley Messina co-chaired this uplifting event. When this dynamic duo was asked to lead the charge for this year’s fundraiser, they wanted Mark K. Shriver, president of the Save the Children Action Network and senior vice president of U.S. Programs at Save the Children, as well as respected author of the bestselling memoir A Good Man: Rediscovering My Father, Sargent Shriver. Honoring “servant leaders,” the 15th annual Harvest of Hope at the MCM Eleganté recognized two outstanding Catholic leaders who are celebrating their 50th anniversaries of religious life, Monsignor Jeremiah McGrath — or Father Jerry –  pastor of Saint Anthony Cathedral Basilica, and Sister Ester Dunegan, chancellor for the Diocese of Beaumont. The evening started with a cocktail party with music provided by harpist Jane Clark. The emcee for the evening was Monsignor Michael Jamail, vicar general for the Diocese of Beaumont.
