Architect Milton Bell honored for lifetime of work

Albert Nolen

Shaping our city

Hometown heroes deserve our accolades, and it was wonderful to see amazing architect Milton Bell overwhelmed by the turnout last Friday evening, Jan. 19, as family and friends gathered to honor him at a reception acknowledging his work as a visionary. The exhibition of his work celebrates his influential career and features many of his architectural drawings. Some of the outstanding buildings designed by this creative man were Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas, the Babe Didrikson Zaharias Museum & Visitor Center, the Otho Plummer Administration Building at Lamar University and many other Lamar buildings. Thrilled with the admiration and turn out were Hester Bell and Leslie Leone. In the mix were Katie Wallis and son Keller, Jan Allred, Totsie Boker, Jan and Tully Butler, Dot Cogswell, Jo Helen and Frank Easley, Sandra Ellington, Rogayle Franklin, Jim Hansard, Mary Gordon, Liz Harris, Bobbie and Maudie Henderson, Sally House, Roxie Lawson, Vel Martin, Laura and John Mays, Dolores and Mack Golson, Kristen Fuller, Janet Todd, Maureen Croley, Barbara and John Bennett, Sue Meagher, Jo Bienvenu, Gerry Edwards, Carol Hearn, Jo Ann Parigi, Jim Little, Stacie Fontenot, Blair and Charlie Foxworth, Julie Toups, Jo Ann Perkins, Stacey and Wes Abbey, Billie and Max Pugh, Georgann and John Raney, Martha Jo and Charles Starke, Ann and Charles Thompson, Barbara and Robert Warren, Terry and John Willman, Linda and Norm Dallas, Mindy and Gerald Petersen, Ellen Reinstra, Nancy and Terry Shipman, Norma Sampson, Regina Rogers, Chris Troutman, Donna Meeks, Dennis Kiehl, Kathy and P.T. Kojak, Mary and Richard Scheer, Nancy and Ken Evans, Marion and Darin Thompson, and too many more to mention. A great tribute to a giant of a man!
