Divine dating

Ubi Caritas scored a home run with its Red, White and Bid 2017 Date Auction. Tables at Madison’s were crammed with boisterous bidders for the live auction items. In the mix were Kathé Hendricks, Lola and Kenneth Duhon, Lindsay and Justin Sanderson, Lindsay and Baylor Wortham, Jan and Tully Butler, Bob Wortham, Margaret Golias and Don Hall, and many more. Outstanding packages were a Cozumel condo, a Telluride time share, a weekend in Fredericksburg with a wine tour, a four-night stay in Nashville with hotel and airfare, a Crystal beach weekend, New Orleans Jazz Fest tickets with hotel stay, and a Lake Tahoe ski trip, to name a few. Some on the winners of these exciting excursions were Dana Johnson, Erron Saucier, Dylan Williams, Austin Huff, Gene Dupuis Jr. and David Byrnes. Around $60,000 was raised at the fundraiser, which is incredible considering the challenges our community faces.

Perfect pearls

While the Art Museum of Southeast Texas changed the date of its 30th Anniversary Pearlescent Gala, the event went off without a hitch. Janey Phelan, Lynda Moncla, Maurren Winchell and chair Rachael Roane transferred the main gallery into a gorgeous Tiffany-blue sea of tables with eye-popping table arrangements of hydrangeas that complimented honoree Richard Stout’s beautiful paintings that graced the walls of the gallery. Founding fathers Mack Fulbright, Bob Quinn and Charles Locke were recognized for their tireless efforts in organizing and creating a beautiful jewel box museum in our fair city. Generous bidders once again were Lee Ann and Terry Garth, Melody and Pat Parsons, Regina and John Taylor, Sandy and Joseph Fertitta, Camille Ohmstede, Jessica Garth Whitney, Kim and Roy Steinhagen, and Charlene and Danny Babineaux, among others. Lynn Castle was honored for her untiring work at AMSET for the last 20 years (she was gifted by the gala committee – you know who you are – with a marvelous pearl necklace and earrings created by the talented Cat Holtzclaw). Also honored were the past board presidents from 2007 to present. Sharon Montgomery entertained the crowd before dinner (prepared by the chef extraordinaire Debbie Bando-Duit and her team) followed by high energy tunes that kept many of the PYTs dancing the night away. Enjoying the event were Gloria Locke, Barbara Quinn, Elizabeth and Russ Waddill, Judy and James Black, Nancy and Ken Evans, Jan Fulbright and Paul Norton, Margaret Green, Mary Williams, Buddy Low, co-chair Stephen Roane, Ivy and George Pate, Shayne King and Jeff McManus, new advisory board members Kit Ohmstede, Jo Vance, John Pat Parsons (with sig other Ayna), Shirley Laine, Alison and Mark Low, Courteney Myrick, Jennifer Gordy, Haylee Faggard, John Adair, Kathy Gober, Marc McDonald, Gene Sylvester, Julie Toups, Cathy and John Hawa, Vic Reyna, Julie Casanova and Gerald Farha, Susan and Jimmy Simmons, Linda Anderson and Chelsea Tipton II, Mary Jane Benning and Doug Fair, Patricia Thorp, Celia Crittenden, Susan and Tim Byrom, Stephanie and Eric Flatten, Nell and Terry Morris, Ann Creswell, Rusty Hall, Mary and Jim Patton, Anna Mae and R.T.
