Harvest of Hope honors Father Jerry and Sister Ester Dunegan

Albert Nolen

Honoring “servant leaders,” the 15th annual Harvest of Hope at the MCM Eleganté recognized two outstanding Catholic leaders who are celebrating their 50th anniversaries of religious life, Monsignor Jeremiah McGrath — or Father Jerry –  pastor of Saint Anthony Cathedral Basilica, and Sister Ester Dunegan, chancellor for the Diocese of Beaumont. The evening started with a cocktail party with music provided by harpist Jane Clark. The emcee for the evening was Monsignor Michael Jamail, vicar general for the Diocese of Beaumont. Donna Wade, 2017 chair for the Board of Directors for Catholic Charities of Southeast, and President/CEO Carolyn Fernandez presented the honorees with the Divine Servant Award, a bronze figurine of Jesus washing a disciple’s feet. Following the tribute to the honorees and a delicious dinner, a lively auction led by auctioneer team of Sam Parigi and Milt Prewitt (these two creative and clever brothers-in-law need to take their act on the road) was assisted by cousins and spotters Jim Broussard and Tom Broussard. Successful bidders for the fantastic money making auction were air Boat trips to Gay and Bill Scott, and Joy and Will Crenshaw, a Safari Hunt to Donna and Denny Harris, a Hill Country trip to the Crenshaw family, a Star S Ranch Game Hunt to Pat and Craig Sherlock, a Costa Rica trip to Lisa Parigi, and two Fiesta Dinners at the Parigi home, with culinary chef extraordinaire Colleen Phalen Marin, to Rodney Robichau and the Scott family. Thrilled with the generous support and enjoying the evening were Danette and Jeff Alford, Kay and Lonnie Arrington, Deborah and Norman Bellard, Chris and Martin Broussard, Cecilia and John Crenshaw, Linda and Joe Domino, Nancy and Ken Evans, Kerri and Shaheen Farah, Helen and Jay Francis, Pat and Tommy Frank, Karen and Mike Fuljenz, Bishop Curtis Guillory, Gina and Rusty Harris, Beverly and Paul Hay, Renee and Carl Hubbell, Flo and Larry Jakobeit, Jo Beth and Mike Jenkins, Nicole and Dar Kavouspour, Pat Klein, Susan and Wayne Margolis, Patti and Floyd McSpadden Jr., Ashley and Greg Messina, Karen and Ryan Miller, Amy and Ed Nash, Ivy Pate, Heather and Mark Petkovsek, Connie Prewitt, Regina Rogers, Jill and Kevin Roy, Felicia and Cedric Runnels, Norma and Alan Sampson, Anna and Paul Scheurich, Terri and E. Jay Sherlock, Jackie Simien, Marcia and John Stevens, Lisa and Tim Sudela, Gerri and Clint Talbot, Shelley and Joe Tortorice, Donna and Jim Wade, Cynthia and Michael Wolf, Corby and Mitch Woods, Bob Wortham and Amy Young. A terrific evening for an incredible cause.
