St. Anne kids make Beaumont so proud

With honors … Sixteen students from St. Anne Catholic School competed with more than 1,000 students from across Texas in the 2012 Private Schools Interscholastic Association Academic State Meet AA Division held April 28 at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. The St. Anne’s academic team proudly received 13th place out of 121 schools at the state meet, earning the highest ranking of any other elementary AA division team in Southeast Texas. These students qualified to attend the State academic competition by placing first or second individually in one or more contests at the PSIA District Meet hosted by St. Elizabeth Anne Seton Catholic School in Houston on March 24. PSIA serves 260 member schools and provides the most comprehensive academic extracurricular program in the nation for private-schooled students in grades 1-8, offering 19 contests with awards in 60 grade-level events. Contests include a wide spectrum of advanced curricula in mathematics, science, social studies, listening, reading, vocabulary, speaking, writing, art, music and drama. Setting their sights … Ducks Unlimited Beaumont Chapter hosted its 25-year Silver Anniversary “Fun Shoot” recently in conjunction with Armed Forces Day. The mission of the event is to raise awareness and funds for the organization as they recognize The Boy Scouts, West Brook NJROTC and the military as well as provide fun, friendly and casual shooting competition.  This “Fun Shoot” was the first of its kind in our area.  Participating in the different categories were Ed Edson III, Roger Croley, Frank Celli, John Wells (who had the support of wife, Adele), Bryan Fisher, Lisa Gilchriest, Larry Beaulieu (with son Brad), Bob Edson, Randy Coleman and Gerald Reidmueller.  What a wonderful way to commune with nature, have a great time as well as make the community aware of this worthwhile organization!

Family affair … When precious couple Jennifer Corona and Mark Phelan tie the knot in October, it will be after the many parties in their honor, since both come from such large families. That being said, it was only fitting that the future bride’s parents, Cindy and Donnie Carona Jr., hosted a family party introducing both sides of the family to each other. With gorgeous weather, their beautiful backyard, with a fiesta theme and brightly covered tables, was the setting for this jubilant event. Siblings of the bride, Rachel and Donnie Corona III, assisted their parents with hosting duties. Representing the future groom’s side of the family were sisters Keili Phelan Smith (with hubby Ted), Michelle Phelan,Cammie Phelan and Mattie Phelan; along with brothers and sister-in-laws Lan and Dynasy Phelan, as well as Dade and Kim Phelan; uncles and aunts Mickey and Elizabeth Phelan, and Patrick and Kathryn Phelan, and Tykie Nosek. Cousins Kathryn Grace, Eric Meadows, and Phoebe and Jon Bassana, Ellen and Danny Phelan were there (and most had their offspring with them), as were, of course, the groom-to-be’s fantastic parents, Janey and Michael Phelan. Representing the future bride’s side of the family were grandparents Velma and Floyd Begnaud, and Gwen and Joe Corona, aunts and uncles Debbie and Tim Sebastian, Vickie Seymour, Brenda and Gerard Cascio, Laura and Larry Begnaud, Ed McCarthy, Beth and Patton Drewitt, and cousins Angele, Haley and Gabrielle Seymour, Monique Sebastian, Heather and Jason Begnaud, Kristen and Austin Begnaud, Nick and Travis Corona, and Hayes, Malone and Patton Drewitt Jr. A delicious Mexican fare was prepared by the hosts and enjoyed by both families. What a wonderful way to begin a future marriage merger — by bringing together so many family members! Congrats!
