Master Gardener Spring Plant Sale and Market Day

Master Gardener Donna Thompson, green house specialist, seeded and transplanted

If winter left your plants in a frozen mess, take heart! The Jefferson County Master Gardener Spring Plant Sale and Market Day is around the corner. Everything you need to get your garden glorious again will be offered. Our Master Gardeners have been celebrating spring with this very popular plant sale for as far back as 2007, according to Peggy Coleman of Texas Agri-Life. She adds that the event may even date back further than that.

Come one, come all to this fun event from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m., Saturday, April 5. Look for the cars at the Jack Brooks Regional Airport, Hangar 4. Parking and admission are free. The master gardeners volunteer and have a great system in place for tagging and purchasing the plants you want to take home. They can also answer gardening questions for you.

You might score yourself some fruit trees, vegetable plants, herbs or bedding plants. Prices are reasonable, and the variety is great. Ann Abshire of the Master Gardeners said, “Lilies, tropical, indoor and patio container plants will all be in abundance.”

Abshire added, “If you want to venture into something new, rather than just replace the old, check out the unusual landscape trees and shrubs. The sale includes many plants not readily available locally.” She wants local gardeners to feel comfortable that all the plants available are suited to our Southeast Texas climate.

Come early for the best selection of plants. Stay late to shop for Easter or anytime gifts at vendor booths and the Jefferson County Country Store. Call Texas A&M Agri-Life Extension Service at (409) 835-8461. Peggy Coleman, Anne Abshier or Jane McBride will be able to answer any questions you may have. See you there!
