Boys’ Haven Crawfish and Music Festival, and Car Show
The middle of May is a great time for a bit of Southeast Texas tradition. The 27th annual Boys’ Haven Crawfish and Music Festival and Giant Car Show will take place on Saturday, May 12, from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. at Parkdale Mall in the parking lot behind Logan’s Roadhouse. Some of the guests will come for the delicious food (crawfish, barbeque, hamburgers and other great choices) while ohers will come for the music. Acoustic Blend, Simple Design, Tx Backroad, IllusionFive, Longneck Road and other groups will take the festival stage beginning at 11:30 a.m., and the music will continue until the festival’s closing. Still other guests will make their way to Parkdale to see the vehicles on display. All in all, it’s a wonderful day of fun — with all proceeds going for a very good cause.Younger guests will enjoy games and festivities planned with them in mind, including a dunking booth featuring local celebrities challenging folks to try their hand at putting them under the water.
A $10 donation gets a generous plate of crawfish that are sure to be tantalizing.
A great deal of effort has been put into the raffle with prizes sure to attract folks who would like to win the Golf and Gold Package providing a round of golf at the Beaumont Country Club and four 1/10 ounce Gold American Eagle ball markers provided by 1st American Coin. Others are vying for the Crystal Beach House Package, which includes a two-night stay in a beach house with linen and clean-up service provided by Cobb Real Estate. The Houston Rockets Package is also drawing attention. This prize offers two premium seats for a game during the 2012-13 season, a one-night stay at the luxurious Derek Hotel, and dinner for two at Trulucks Seafood, Steak, and Crab House.
Raffle tickets for all the great prizes are only $1 each, and winners will be chosen at the end of the fun festival. You do not have to be present to win. Tickets will be available the entire day or you may pre-buy them at Boys’ Haven at 3655 N. Major Drive in Beaumont.
All proceeds will be used for the personal and program needs of Boys’ Haven, according to Tony Castillo, CEO. Boys’ Haven is a home where at-risk boys are nurtured and inspired to become responsible, independent men committed to family and community. The organization is a non-profit, non-sectarian, charitable institution licensed by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. Funding is received from the state, United Way grants and individual donors. The general residential operation serves boys ages 8 to 17 and provides a safe port for stormy times in the lives of boys. Many residents come from single parent homes and are in need of a structured environment in which to grow. Education and personal responsibility are stressed.
“It was the community that believed every boy deserves a home, and we have continued the mission for over 60 years by keeping that dream alive for all young men who need our help,” said Castillo.
