Jan. 10, 1901, the Lucas Gusher blew in on a hill just south of Beaumont. The public is invited to celebrate the 116th anniversary Saturday, Jan. 7, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Spindletop Gladys City Boomtown at 5550 Jimmy Simmons Blvd. near Lamar University.
The day will start with a reenactment of the Lucas Gusher at 10:30 a.m. and continue with skits by the Big Thicket Outlaws, a takeover of the saloon by the Women’s Temperance Union, demonstrations in the blacksmith shop, print shop and more, sewing with the Quilt Guild, music by a barber shop choir, food, games, crafts, and plenty of fun.
Prices are $5 adults, $3 (for seniors 60 and older), $2 for children 6-12 and free for kids 5 and under.
