Lamar Loop: LU softball season tickets now available

Former Lamar basketball standout Mike James has been waived by the Phoenix Suns

Season tickets for the 2018 Lamar University softball season are now on sale. Reserved seats for all 15 home dates, including the annual Cardinal Classic, are $80. General-admission season tickets are $65 for adults and $45 for senior citizens (over 65) and youths (17 and younger).

The Cardinals, who enter their sixth season of competition since LU revived the softball program in 2013, open the season Feb. 9 when they face Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech at the Sand Dollar Classic in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

LU opens the home slate at 3 p.m. on Feb. 19 when the Washington Huskies come to the LU Softball Complex for a doubleheader. Last season, the Huskies went 50-14, including a 2-2 mark at the Women’s College World Series.

“We are blessed to have a team like Washington coming here,” said head coach Holly Bruder. “This is the biggest team we’ve had come here.”

This season’s Cardinal Classic is a three-team event set for Feb. 23-25, as Alabama A&M and Binghamton will participate.

Other non-conference opponents coming to LU this season are Eastern Kentucky (March 13), Dartmouth (March 20) and Houston (April 11).

LU’s first home conference series is set for March 23-24 against Stephen F. Austin. Defending Southland Conference champion McNeese comes to the LU Softball Complex for a three-game series starting April 20.

Tickets are available online at or by calling (409) 880-1715.
