Chambers County Sheriff's Office responded to a home on FM 2041 in Anahuac in reference to two deceased individuals on Dec. 24. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Matthew Allen Kline, 28, and his wife, Dominique Schliske, 26, dead from gunshot wounds.

The initial investigation showed Schliske was in the master bedroom of their home and was likely shot in the head while asleep. Kline was discovered in the same room on the floor next to the bed with what detectives believe was a self-inflicted gun shot wound to the head. 


During the Jefferson County Commissioners Court meeting Dec. 17, County Judge Jeff Branick and commissioners recognized the service of two elected officials and a staff member retiring at the end of the year in Judges Donald Floyd and Nancy Beaulieu, as well as Jefferson County Tax Assessor-Collector employee Gwen Green.


A Hamshire man arrested in Chambers County on Dec. 12 for burglary was indicted seven days later on Dec. 19 by a Jefferson County grand jury for aggravated sexual assault of a child.


A single-vehicle crash in Jasper County ended in the death of the driver Friday, Dec. 21. 

According to a press release from the Department of Public Safety, DPS troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on FM 1131, near CR 873, in Jasper County. The crash occurred just South of FM 105.


Orange police investigators are asking for help in the investigation into the death of 37-year-old Octavias Lamont Williams.

According to information from the Orange Police Department, Williams was found just after 3 p.m. Dec. 22, in the 300 block of Second Street. An autopsy has been ordered by Justice of the Peace Joy Dubose-Simonton.
