Following a loss in the Republican primary March 7, Orange County Judge Stephen Brint Carlton announced April 13 that he would be resigning from his judgeship on Sunday, April 22, to take a position as executive director for the Texas Medical Board in Austin.


A man once facing charges for allegedly holding a woman hostage, torturing her and raping her repeatedly for five weeks has now been indicted on first-degree felony charges amid accusations that he beat up a 21-year-old autistic man before attacking the victim with a sword.

Police in Orange are investigating a shooting that left one man with multiple gunshot wounds, reports Orange Police Department (OPD) Capt. Robert Enmon. 

According to a news release from OPD, officers responded to the 2500 block of Park Avenue in reference to a shooting shortly after 9 p.m. on April 12. When they arrived at the location, they found 23-year-old DeMarcus Rogers suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital in Beaumont for treatment. His condition was unknown at the time of this report.

The 74-year-old rancher lives in DeWitt County, between San Antonio and Victoria, an area surrounded by oil and natural gas fields. Steinmann and other local property owners say the oil and gas boom is destroying the rural road system.
