A person’s home may be their castle, but for those who live in apartment complexes in Southeast Texas, many are quickly learning that their territorial reign does not extend to common parking areas. Tire touching the grass – your car may not be there when you come back for it. Parked on the line – towed away. Parking pass fallen off the rearview mirror – that may cost you a few hundred bucks.

Southeast Texas businesses, hunters, and individuals are invited to participate in “Break a Clay for MDA”, a sporting-clay event. Five-person teams are $600. The event is at the 1-in-100 Gun Club, 1228 FM 421 Road in Lumberton Saturday, Aug. 6. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m., and flight choices are 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

UPDATE: BPD Detectives arrested Rochelle Raedawn Kelly, 30, of Beaumont Aug. 5 in the aggravated robbery that occurred Aug. 2, 2016 at the TETCO Convenience Store at 5590 Calder in Beaumont.

Workers on a boat under Veterans Memorial Bridge in Orange County recovered the body of a 54-year-old woman Aug. 2, reports the Orange County Sheriff's Office. 

According to a news release from OCSO, deputies responded to a call for assistance on a welfare concern at the bridge at approximately 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday. When deputies arrived, they were advised a white female had been rescued from the water by workers that had been in a boat working under the bridge.

The 2016-2017 school year is around the corner, and Southeast Texas residents will be out getting students prepared. The upcoming Texas tax-free weekend from August 5-7 is popular for shopping and profitable for local businesses, but, it is also a lucrative time for criminals as shoppers are often preoccupied with children, shopping lists, foot and vehicle traffic, warns Officer Carol Riley of the Beaumont Police Department.
