Slowly but surely, Delores Reyes of Rose City has been trying to put her life and household back together after Hurricane Harvey rolled through last year and destroyed everything she spent 80-plus years amassing. But the fact that she has hit rough times hasn’t stopped criminals from targeting her as she begins to rebuild anew.

Among the things Reyes has been able to cobble together since the storm is a stove – although it’s electric, not the usual gas burner model she’s grown accustomed to cooking on over the last several decades.

Saving energy proved rewarding today as Lamar University received a $90,348 energy conservation incentive check from the Entergy Texas Entergy Solutions Program.

Lamar University administrators and staff joined representatives of Entergy Texas in the Reaud Executive Event Center to recognize LU’s energy conservation management projects from 2016 through 2018.

Nature has long been a muse for artists, scientists and even politicians. The late Ed Holder understood that. He knew that nature deserved to be loved and appreciated, but also protected. Holder, who passed away in 2005, was a prolific journalist, photographer and proponent for nature conservation who is now being honored for his work with an exhibit at the Museum of the Gulf Coast that opens Aug. 18 and closes Jan. 5, 2019.

Police in Port Arthur are investigating a homicide after a stabbing resulted in the death of 31-year-old Roderick Wiltz a few days after he was attacked during an argument, reports the Port Arthur Police Department (PAPD).

Jefferson County Sherrif Deputies responded to a call of an accidental shooting of a 12-year-old boy in the area of Highway 90 and Highway 326 in Nome Aug. 13 around 10:58 p.m.

Upon arrival, an adult male subject was located at Snappy’s Exxon Station on Highway 90 in China with the wounded boy. He advised Deputies that his stepson had been accidentally shot to his right forearm and was bleeding heavily. One of the deputies placed a trauma bandage from his wound kit on the wound to try to stop the bleeding.
