Jessica Talmadge, 29, of Buna was pronounced deceased Monday, July 16 after being found on the shoulder of Highway 12 in Orange County on the morning of Saturday, July 14. 

According to a statement by Texas Department of Public Safety at 7:15 a.m. on Saturday, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) received a report of an injured woman on the improved shoulder of Highway 12 in Orange County.

DPS Troopers responded to the area of Highway 12 and FM 1136.  Troopers located Talmadge lying on the westbound shoulder of Highway 12 with severe injuries.


Beaumont Police Department is hosting the Citizen’s Police Academy Thursday, August 9. The training program is free and lasts 15 weeks that meet every Thursday starting August 9 and ends November 15. The weekly class starts at 6:30 p.m. and ends at 9:30 p.m. There are also two hands on-training classes that are on Saturday.

The program is for adults who are 18 and older. It is held two times each year and was designed to educate and expose community members to the operations of law enforcement.

Participants must apply and be registered to participate.


Sunmart in Orange was robbed at gunpoint the night of July 15.

According to a press release by Orange Police Department, at 8:54 p.m., officers of the Orange Police Department were dispatched to Sunmart at 333 Lutcher Dr. in regards to an Aggravated Robbery. Upon arrival at 8:56 p.m., officers met with the clerk who stated that a black male had robbed her at gunpoint for an undetermined amount of money. The clerk advised that the suspect fled on foot toward Simmons Dr. 

A search of the area by officers proved fruitless. The investigation is ongoing at this time.


A Beaumont man was found deceased after being shot the night of Thursday, July 12. 


The Stark Museum of Art invites you downtown for Stories from Cowboys of Color: An Afternoon with Don Russell, Cleo Hearn, Myrtis Dightman, Bailey “The Prairie Kid,” and Jason Griffin on Saturday, July 28, beginning at 2 p.m.  The event will feature a panel discussion from 2-3 p.m. and will be followed with a reception and book signing.
