2013 budget addresses problems, expensive fixes


The city of Beaumont is trying to keeping its financial house in order, despite the litany of expensive water and road projects on the horizon.


With a 5 percent increase in water utility rates and a 3.5 percent rise in taxable property values, the city is hoping to pay down much of its $200 million outstanding bond debt without raising any more taxes.

Weekend of events honors Vietnam veterans

 

Veterans gathered the weekend of Sept. 21-23 to raise funds for a monument to Vietnam veterans to be built in front of the state capitol in Austin. Vietnam Veterans of America Inc. Chapter 292 and the city of Beaumont united to close the fundraising gap for the Texas Capitol Vietnam Veterans Monument.

According to the a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, an inmate confined at the Federal Prison Complex in Beaumont has pleaded guilty to racketeering charges, including conspiracy to commit murder, in a Maryland-based case.

UPDATE: Jacoby Holman, a man who police say murdered Trazayre Sanders, 20, of Beaumont, was back in court Monday April 15.

“It’s a bus station!”

By February 2013, the likelihood is that Jack Brooks will be both an airport and a bus station.
