The Beaumont Independent School District Board of Managers hired the Texas Association of School Boards Executive Search Committee to find candidates for the district’s open superintendent position at a meeting Tuesday, Dec. 2. Board members heard from three prospective firms vying for the job before discussing the search firms in the open public meeting forum.

Fire suppression units of the Beaumont Fire/Rescue responded to a reported apartment fire at 3190 Eastex Freeway. According to a press release, units arrived to find the kitchen of apartment 207 involved by fire. They were able to extinguish the fire in a matter of minutes, confining fire, smoke and water damage to the involved unit.

Echoing caution expressed in recent weeks from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Orange County Sheriff Keith Merritt is warning local residents to beware of phone scams going on in the area. 

According to information from the Orange County Sheriff's Office (OCSO), with the holiday season in full swing, con artists are resorting to their old tricks to try to get folks to part with their hard-earned dollars.
