The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas have signed a clinical affiliation agreement, the companies announced in a press release Wednesday, Jan. 11.

This affiliation, which went into effect Jan. 1, will build on the strengths of both organizations to provide the most advanced patient care for adult and pediatric patients in the Beaumont area and the surrounding region, the release stated.

A Port Neches woman lost $1,700 to a loan scam a few weeks ago, and it was  $1,700 she couldn’t afford to lose.

She told The Examiner in an interview, though she asked that we not print her name, that her case was one of two cases of identity theft reported to the Port Neches Police Department at the end of December, just two days apart.

After multiple financial audits that analysts had to qualify with exceptions, the Beaumont Independent School District is being presented the first “unqualified audit” of its finances since Texas Education Agency Commissioner Michael Williams ousted the elected Board of Trustees amid allegations of gross mismanagement and installed a Board of Managers to oversee BISD’s affairs in July 2014.

It’s been a year since Beaumont attorney Dane Dennison was sentenced to serve two years probation in lieu of 180 days in jail, pay a fine of $1,500, and report for seven days in jail after being found guilty of a misdemeanor DWI charge that resulted in a car crash injuring fellow motorists.
