In a case the presiding judge said has been “languishing too long” in the courts, former Beaumont ISD contract electrician Calvin Walker is accused in six 2014 indictments of various crimes related to alleged fraud against city and state agencies for whom he was hired to perform work, including the Beaumont school district and the city of Port Arthur. Evidentiary information used in the case dates back even further, to 2008 and 2009, according to the indictments handed up against the accused.

Paying only $50 restitution in a year’s time toward a half-million-dollar bill owed to Beaumont ISD stakeholders, the federal government had to take additional measures to ensure that former school district assistant superintendent and high school principal Patricia Adams Collins Lambert paid back the money she admittedly stole from students in Beaumont.

Dec. 6, Texas’ highest criminal court, the Court of Criminal Appeals, stood by its May 2017 decision to order a new trial for Kelvin Roy, a man who has already been proven drunk and high on PCP when he slammed the vehicle he was driving into one occupied by Vidor teen Alexandria “Lexy” Bertrand in 2014.

Proposed senior housing complex

The Beaumont Housing Authority (BHA) is seeking the city’s support for a proposed senior housing complex that would be constructed adjacent to the Great Lawn near the Lakeside Center, a senior activity center taking the place of the Best Years Center.

The Beaumont Public Schools Foundation (BPSF) grant caravan stopped at seven Beaumont Independent School District campuses Dec. 1 to make teachers’ and students’ wishes come true with hands-on educational tools that inspire creative learning in the classroom.

Members and friends of the foundation rode out with the BPSF Grant Caravan bus Friday to drop off the learning tools requested, and to present winning educators with glass apples in recognition of their dedication to academic excellence.
